I opened the door to let the dogs out early this am and my dog Cricket spotted a rabbit and took off towards it. I hadn't clipped the long leash onto Ringo yet to go outside and he followed Cricket towards the back of our property. Cricket has an electric fence and stopped at the lot boundary (she doesn't even need the collar on anymore) Ringo kept going towards the rabbit into the brush. I called my husband for help and ran for shoes and coat. My stomach flipped thinking we might have lost a foster dog. No worry. By the time I was back, Ringo was back in the yard. I called him and he came running towards the door. What a good boy. Later, I did some doggie yard pick up and did not hold the leash at all. He followed me around the yard with the leash on the ground. I think he is a dog you could train to walk beside you without a leash. I think that is so cool when I see a dog walking with it's person unleashed. I guess I appreciate it even more since my dog would take off on me in an instant and then play "catch me if you can" if her leash was off.
