Week two update

I don't think I would call her fearful or timid anymore.  She is cautions but nothing major.  She has made so much progress these last two weeks.  She is very comfortable in our home, does well outside and even does well on short walks.  She is great with my dog and loves the teenagers.  She just needed to get away from her place in the pack of puppy siblings and experience a home and come into her own darling personality.

She is not high energy in the home and keeps herself busy with chew toys.  That being said, she will grab an occasional shoe or electric cord (they are out of reach for her now) so she needs supervision. A short AH, AH, and she will drop the item she is not suppose to have. She spend her day with us in the kitchen/family room area.  If we cannot watch her, she goes in the puppy pen.  See picture.
Maggie spends her evening either on my lap or my husbands. She loves to cuddle in and either snooze or chew on a toy while being next to us. She isn't a wiggle puppy.

Housetraing is going slow.  The weather isn't helping (me) and I think being in the shelter until 4 months old doesn't help.  She does have the natural instinct not to soil her crate.  When you take her outside, she goes right away.  If she hasn't pooped in a while,  I walk her a short distance and she will usually go.  She is good for and hour in the home after she goes outside and then I watch her like a hawk or put her in the puppy pen. She will sometimes go in the pen so I have a puppy training pad in there that she will use.  Sunday this all will change as I am removing the puppy pen and after an hour to hour in a half,  I will be crating her.  At the two hour mark, she will go outside and we will repeat. The crate will be in the kitchen, so she is with us but I want to get her to start holding it consistently two hours.  From there, we will work on increasing the time.  She has held it for 3-4 hours so she can do this.

Anyways, that is where we are at with dear Maggie.  Love her.  She makes us smile.

I just reread this.  I need to mention,  all of this of pretty typical for puppies.  Yes, they are work but oh so much fun.  So sweet.
