A Good First Night.
I put Sophia in her crate around 10pm. She whined/softly barked for about 5 minutes and then was quiet the entire night. This morning we went outside around 7am, she did her business right away. No accidents in the crate overnight. No accidents in the house since she arrived. (Since she is new, I have been keeping her on a long leash tethered to me or in the laundry room behind a baby gate when I'm busy) My son came downstairs this morning and sat on the kitchen floor. She was in his lap for rubs right away- a very affectionate girl. A Good First Day, too! I find it takes a dog at least a week to adjust to a new environment so she is still adjusting. Poor thing ended up at a shelter, went to a temporary foster home and Alabama, spent two days traveling in care with many different people during the transport, spent two days at a doggie daycare and is now in a strange home. She is currently following me everywhere I go, not being pesty, just being near. As I type she is under the kitchen table lying on the floor. She just gave me a couple of lick on my ankle. She is preferring my company to Crickets. Cricket takes a few days to warm up to a new dog so is probably giving her a leave me alone vibe. I did try toys with her and she will watch them but not playing with them. This also seems to take a few days when a new dog arrives. Some have never played with a toy before. Her energy level seems to be medium. She has little bursts of energy and then will flop down on the floor. The only time she barks is when I put her in the crate or behind the baby gate and then it is only for a few minutes. Sophia does awesome with my 13 yr old son. She also met a 3 yr old neighbor boy. She did jump up on him but is not mouthy and very tolerant of kids actions. She was NOT fearful of his actions at all. Lisa who runs the daycare said she is tolerant of other dogs also including those that like to play more rough. And now the question all ask, does she shed? The only dogs that do not shed are poodles. Right now she has a lot of extra fur that has not been maintained. I have gotten some off when I brushed her and noticed a couple of little fuzz balls but I am pretty confident after her coat gets cleaned up she should be a low shed dog. Nothing like my dog that leaves little single pieces of hair all over. I am thinking she may not be much over one year old. Her teeth are quite white with not much tartar. Her actions are often puppylike. One of the best things about her is -------she is an awesome listener! My son just make that comment about her too. All you have to do is click your tongue or snap or finger or say her name and she is by your side. Oh, one more thing, still no accidents.
